When was the last time you used your legs and went to a record store to buy a physical album?

I’m a Mechanical Engineer. And for the best part of 8 years that’s how I identified myself. I thought that’s what I was always going to do. But then I started to open my eyes to all the exciting things that were happening around me; how technology was rapidly changing and all the opportunities that that created to completely reimagine the world around us. I wanted to be a part of it but knew I wasn’t in the right place for that.

We are overflowing with pride to see Cohort 6, our biggest cohort to date, graduate.

Ellen Talbot from R-Ladies Liverpool weighs in on the barriers facing women in tech. How can you get involved?

Over the past month or so we’ve been sending our tutor Daryl and Northcoder in Residence Adie over to The Juice Academy in Castlefield where they have been training a group of young digital marketers in the art of code. The Juice Academy was set up by Sandy Lindsay ofTangerine PRand offers Digital Marketing apprenticeships to young people, including our very own young person Sam who is a Growth Apprentice at Northcoders!

One of the most common and feared tasks in programming is working with dates and time. The way dates are normally stored in databases or provided by 3rd party APIs is very different from the way you’d like to display them to your users. Moreover, if you have to make calculations such as scheduling dates in the future (e.g. send this email two weeks from now) or displaying relative time (e.g. this happened 2 minutes ago) things start to get tricky.
