Meet Jordon, one of the Careers Consultants here at Northcoders. He tells us about his role and what he does to support Northcoders students to secure their first tech job.

Hi, can you introduce yourself?

I'm Jordon, I'm from up Newcastle way, so along with my Geordie accent, I'm also bringing the true North to Northcoders. I've been here for over a year now.

What does your job role involve?

I joined Northcoders as my passion was always helping people land their dream careers—so, instead of helping Directors and Division Heads land another $100k+ position, I wanted to focus on helping the Juniors break into the tech industry! What better place to be than Northcoders?

What did you do before your role at Northcoders?

My background is Recruitment and Talent Acquisition both internally and for external agencies. I've worked in Data, Tech and the Indie/AAA Game industry around the world.

Why do you enjoy working in tech?

I've always been into my tech but by no means am I a Software Developer. I've touched a little coding in my past but nothing major. I enjoyed working in Recruitment within tech as I got to speak to people of all different levels from all different disciplines learning about their own journey. Now working in Careers, I get to help guide people into the tech industry and begin their own journey.

How do you and the wider team at Northcoders help students get their first job in tech?

We help them showcase their skills learnt on the bootcamp through tailored CV advice and writing, career coaching around LinkedIn profiles, best interview practice, job applications, etc. We run interview prep and mock interviews as well as helping the students connect with hiring managers and recruiters at events via our jobs board. We also host our own Northcoders events, so we always encourage students to attend.

Lastly, can you tell me a fun fact about you?

I’ve been hypnotised (and given super strength) by Derren Brown, and I was on EastEnders as a child.
