Keely MadginPreview: Keely Madgin

Keely is the Lead Careers Consultant at Northcoders. She shares with us what her role involves, how she supports Northcoders graduates to find their first software development jobs, and why she loves working in tech.

Hi, can you introduce yourself?

I’m Keely, Lead Careers Consultant and I have worked at Northcoders just over three years.

What does your job role involve?

I lead the Careers Team, support the coaches in their delivery of 1:1 guidance sessions, develop new materials and resources for our Northcoders students and graduates, and work closely with the lead from our Partnerships Team to support our graduates into work.  I also work 1:1 with a small number of learners per cohort too, as the individual coaching and support will always be my passion.

What did you do before your role at Northcoders?

Before working at Northcoders, I was a Digital Careers Advisor at an apprenticeship provider, where I realised my passion for the tech sector and early careers!

Why do you enjoy working in tech?

I don’t think I have ever worked in a more inclusive sector! As a whole the tech sector is welcoming of people from diverse backgrounds - something we see in our Northcoders cohorts.

How do you and the wider team at Northcoders help students get their first job in tech?

As a part of a student’s progression through the Northcoders bootcamp, they participate in group and 1:1 sessions with the careers coaches. We support them with everything from CV writing and how to search for jobs, through to interview skills and positive mindsets for job searching. The careers team also works closely with our Partnerships Consultants who are actively engaging with businesses, to allow us to link students with opportunities that matter to them.

Lastly, can you tell me a fun fact about you?

After graduating university, I spent a year living and working abroad, from the Red Sea Coast of Egypt, to the high altitudes of the Alps in France.
