Introducing our Careers Team: Sue

Sue Lappage, Northcoders Careers ConsultantPreview: Sue Lappage, Northcoders Careers Consultant

Meet Sue, a careers consultant at Northcoders, and learn more about her and what she does to help Northcoders students find their first role in tech.

Hi, can you introduce yourself?

Hello, I’m Sue, a Careers Consultant, and I have worked here for over 3 years.
Throughout my career, I have worked predominantly within the education sector including apprenticeships.  My role is different every day which I love–I get to meet so many different people and hear their unique stories as to why tech is for them and what brought their career journey to Northcoders.

What does your job role involve?

I support with many different aspects from supporting a student with their tech CV and LinkedIn to really showcase what they can do, to then providing mock interview support so they can highlight their knowledge and skills ready for interviews. My role also allows me to work closely with the partnerships team (who connects with employers) to help students find the right role for them.

Why do you enjoy working in tech?

Tech is something that is a part of everyone’s lives and allows someone’s vision to become a reality which is amazing. Hearing a student say “Look at what I have developed” is something that will always be exciting.

(You can have a look at some of our students' projects here.)

Lastly, can you tell me a fun fact about you?

A fun fact about me: When I was 5 I entered a competition to cut the ribbon to open a new Sainsbury’s in my hometown, I submitted a painting from my school and WON. I joined the Mayor to open the store and my painting was put across billboards throughout the town (Safe to say I didn’t become an artist).
