We first met Northcoders mid 2016 and it has been a wonderful journey. Part of my role at ThoughtWorks is to find the most technically passionate graduates across the country. I have been spending time in our Manchester office with a focus on the growing digital hub flourishing in this wonderful city. With this in mind, I was overjoyed meeting Northcoders and hearing about their mission, their curriculum and their processes. I have been to meet their students and presented our ThoughtWorks mission; both times I walked away feeling excited, welcome and motivated. The founders have been so accommodating in making course tweaks and changes to align with what we look for in our graduate developer at ThoughtWorks. It is rare to come across such flexibility in academies.
We hired our first Graduate Software Developer from Northcoders in April 2017, who has just got back from our internal training programme, ThoughtWorks University, in India. He is now on his first project in Manchester and it is incredible being part of his journey, seeing him grow and develop. I have no doubt that this is the first of many between ThoughtWorks and Northcoders.
Diversity in all areas is not just important to us, it is who we are. Therefore, diversity in educational backgrounds within our graduate space is vital if we want to stay aligned with the market and bring a broad and bold range of ideas to our projects. We hire graduates who have just finished university and studied something like Computer Science or Physics, we hire career changers and we hire graduates that have just completed an academy, like Northcoders. I am excited that Northcoders are preparing and giving confidence to people getting into the tech industry and I am even more excited working with the Northcoders team and meeting future students.
