Mark's story

How did you find your time on the bootcamp?

My time at Northcoders was a lot of fun! Throughout the whole course I never had a single day doubting why I signed up. As the weeks rolled on, my level of understanding grew and I can genuinely say it has made me a better developer.

Having that safety net to repeat a module if it hadn't sunk in was so reassuring and there was no stigma attached to repeating a module

What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?

My working life has always been in technology and I was a developer 15 years ago, but had lost my way to consultancy and then more recently product management and strategic leadership. I wasn't enjoying the path my career was taking me and I wanted to go back to coding. Northcoders gave me that opportunity to bring me back up to date with the latest tech and get the developer mindset up and running again.

What was the support like on the course?

Simply put the support from Northcoders was there every day of the course. The tutors and the resident Northcoders were always happy to help, offer advice, show you the happy path and more importantly steer you to solve the problems yourself, they didn't just spoon feed you the answers. A great bunch of people.

The Developer Pathway of which I was part of the first cohort to go through was brilliant. Having that safety net to repeat a module if it hadn't sunk in was so reassuring and there was no stigma attached to repeating a module either.

How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?

The support given after the course had finished and the serious task of finding work utilising Amul and the team was fantastic. Without the team helping, I don't think I would have landed such a good job at a senior level without the relationships Northcoders have with the various hiring partners.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?

Just do it! Even if it is via one of the many online coding courses, just have a crack. There is nothing more satisfying than solving a problem using code you created. It's infectious.
