How did you find your time on the bootcamp?

I have a colourful background in regards to jobs, all of which required their own amount of graft. I call Northcoders the beautiful journey. It’s a challenge like no other, but in the space of four months I met some lifetime friends and developed personally and professionally thanks to this amazing place. From creating multiple projects including a Pokémon game, Reddit type website and our final Daytripper app, all have given me massive confidence in myself and for the future!

What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?

Before Northcoders I was working as a marketing manager / general manager for a local business. Though the job was great and I had some fantastic employers, I needed more, something that I could build on, something challenging but rewarding and something to support my wonderful family with. I started to manage the websites and this peaked my interest for coding. I looked online for courses but was informed about Northcoders, I did the taster course and the rest is history!

What was the support like on the course?

The teaching team at Northcoders are fantastic. They understand that it’s an intense environment and help you every step of the way. I remember taking a list of questions to my personal tutor each week. In addition they are all really approachable and will help you with any questions. The biggest compliment I can give the team is that they have helped transform my life and I am now a developer (which still seems surreal!) - they believe in you and want you to succeed.

How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?

The careers team are exceptional. Every two weeks on the course you meet hiring partners, to get a feel of the different types of companies involved with northcoders. There are a lot! The careers team give some exceptional guidance on CVs and interview preparation, truly life changing. Moreover, after the presentation on the final day you get to speak further with hiring partners which is all arranged by the careers team. After graduation, I had three interviews within the first week and was offered a job just six working days after leaving. Simply amazing!

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?

If you have thought about applying, you should, it takes courage to step outside your comfort zone but with Northcoders you will be a developer by the time you graduate. If I had tried this in my own time it would of taken at least a year. But in just a few months I became a developer and was hired.

Anything else you would like to add?

Taking the first step was the hardest, but that made the last step that little bit sweeter. Everyone at Northcoders, from the tutors, careers team and the different friends I have made, all helped change my life and I will forever be grateful.

It’s intense, it’s challenging, it’s brilliant, it’s fun, it’s amazing… But most of all it’s worth it! Thank you Northcoders!
