How did you find your time on the bootcamp?
I had a great time at Northcoders - it nicely combines the studying environment with a realistic working environment. The people I met on the course were great too and a special mention to the tutors that helped me throughout and even after I’d graduated.
What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?
I’d spent the last 7+ years working in various roles in the shipping industry, which while it gives you good job security, offers no real opportunity for career progression/development or any chance for creativity.
What was the support like on the course?
Even before the course starts you’re given support in the drop in sessions, which are a great help especially for people like me who are brand new to coding. This is then continued while you’re on the course with the tutors who are fantastic and there to help whenever you need it. You’re also allocated a mentor and have regular 1 on 1 catch ups to go through any coding problems you have (big shout out to Ant for all the help!!)
How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?
After graduating the tutors are still there to help you out with things such as tech tests (shout out to Shaq!). You’re also given support from the careers team who help with CV writing and give a few lectures on interview prep.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?
If you’re serious about getting into coding then this is the best place to learn. Thank you to all that helped during my Northcoders journey including the tutors, students and even the creative manager James!
