How did you find your time on the bootcamp?
I had a great time at Northcoders! The course was well paced with great tutors and it really does offer an excellent environment for learning.
What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?
Before Northcoders I was worked on a farm but the work became mundane and I lacked career direction. I started learning to code independently but decided if I was to truly make a change then I needed to commit to it. I saw Northcoders as a commitment to learning to code and changing careers.
What was the support like on the course?
All of the tutors themselves were great and were backed up by a well designed curriculum. Lectures were informative and engaging and I really liked how new concepts were introduced. The atmosphere in the classroom is great too - you spend a lot of time paired with other students which I found really helped cement the material and the ever approachable and knowledgable tutors are always around to help you when you get stuck.
How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?
I found my role through the careers department so safe to say they helped me personally a lot. During the course there is help with CVs and interview preparation and the process of applying to roles on the job board is a really simple process. For some numbers: I made 10 applications of which 5 led to interviews of which 2 led to offers. I accepted an offer just over a month after graduating Northcoders.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?
There are loads of great resources online available to those looking to learn to code in their own time - get stuck in! Whilst it’s entirely possible to learn on your own I think learning at Northcoders is always going to lead to more progress due to the content you learn, the environment you’re in and the support available to you. I wouldn’t be where I am now had I remained learning independently and I do somewhat regret not applying sooner.
