How did you find your time on the bootcamp?
Before starting the programme I was at a point in my life where I could carry on doing what I had been doing for the last 5 or so years, or to retrain and try do something which had always really appealed to me. It was hard to take the initial jump - but once I was accepted onto the course I never looked back. From day one you are constantly learning in a really positive environment, and I enjoyed every day immensely.
What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?
My previous career was in sales and account management for an ed-tech firm - however I had left london a year before to go backpacking with my partner. Once I arrived home I figured I could go back to my old job that was driven by commercials/sales targets, or into something a bit more hands on and more of a tangible skill, which is ultimately what I felt I had lacked in previous jobs.
What was the support like on the course?
Couldn’t have asked for a better teaching team. Continually supportive and helpful, they all made the whole course as enjoyable as it was. Support was continuous and provided in such a way that whilst they helped you, they prompted you to try and solve the problems ourselves.
How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?
I feel really lucky to have been able to be offered a role less than two weeks after graduating, but feel that this wouldn’t have been possible without the support and encouragement of the careers team. From the start of project phase through to preparing for the interview and receiving feedback, there was continuous support from the team.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?
Absolutely do it. Best decision I’ve made regarding my career. Going ‘back to school’ was not half as hard as I thought it would be, and found that going back to a learning environment was thoroughly enjoyable, even as one of the older people in my group.
