NO MIDDLEMAN. NO FEES.

NuHand was founded to solve the problem of £2B in leftover foreign cash in UK homes. People are often reluctant to exchange this cash due to fees and laziness. NuHand enables quick, easy, and secure exchange of foreign cash with nearby individuals who want it. Our target users are those traveling and those wanting to exchange foreign cash for GBP. Our app allows users to sign up, check listings under a specific currency, save listings, and view their own posted listings.

Technologies

We used: Typescript, React Native and Firebase.

After spiking several options, we made the decision to implement these technologies as they proved to be efficient and straightforward solutions to meet our project goals and time constraints.

Challenges Faced

Initially, our project faced challenges with its development setup. Our original plan was to use Expo, but one team member encountered difficulties with their system. After two days of attempting to set up the project with React CLI, we faced obstacles and decided to revert back to using Expo. Unfortunately, we also lost one of our team members early in the second week, forcing us to adjust and continue with the project as a smaller team. Some team members also encountered issues with the emulator, but we were able to overcome this by having a team member with a functioning emulator share their screen through Zoom. Due to these challenges, we regretfully were unable to implement certain planned features, such as a chat feature, due to time constraints.
