Capture Wisdom in a Snapshot: QuoteSnap – Unleash Inspiration Anytime, Anywhere!

The app is built to allow you to scan text using either your camera or an existing photo. Using OCR technology, it extracts the text from the image and gives you the opportunity to add further details or edit the text, before saving it to the database. You can create new users, delete existing quotes and order your quotes by category.

The idea came from often wanting to save quote when reading books, but having nothing appropriate to do it. The app is designed to be used on-the-go, with a simple user interface and means of categorising your quotes.

Technologies

We used: React-native, MongoDB, JavaScript, OCR, ExpressJS, Node.js, Android Studio

We wanted to use a popular tech stack (MERN - MongoDB, Express, React, Node) whilst also optimising for mobile development.

Challenges Faced

Getting the camera and OCR technology working was a big challenge. Also getting Android Studio to work was troublesome on most people's computers. Learning NoSQL DB in a short period of time was difficult but rewarding.
