Accessible coding tuition for women and gender minorities

Applications are closed

The Study Now, Pay Later initiative offers women and gender minorities who might otherwise not be able to come to Northcoders the full Northcoders experience on The Developer Pathway without paying tuition fees upfront.

What is this?

Students using this scheme will be able to learn how to code at Northcoders and wait until they graduate and start earning a regular wage before beginning tuition repayments.

This is also known as deferred tuition.

Do I qualify?

To qualify, you must:

> Identify as a woman or belong to a gender minority (e.g: non-binary, transgender, intersex).

> Have had an income of less than £21,000 in the last year

> Be able to show us that you’re committed to learning to code and finding work as a software developer in the North of England

> Be a UK citizen

For more details, contact us.

How do I apply?

It’s easy. Just apply using the form below. You'll need to tell us a bit about why you want to learn to code with Northcoders and why you want to work in software development.

Read our Study Now, Pay Later FAQs below for more information.

Study Now, Pay Later: FAQs

Why have you launched this scheme?

Women and those belonging to gender minorities are massively underrepresented in tech. And we think it’s time something changed.

By making deferred tuition places available with the Study Now, Pay Later scheme, we want to close the gender gap in the North and create a more inclusive environment for the next generation of tech workers.

How are payments taken?

After you graduate and start earning a regular wage, you will pay 12.5% of your gross income each month until the balance is paid in full. This is also known as a deferred payment plan.

For more information about how deferred payment plans work, contact us.

Will I pay interest on my tuition fees?

No, there is no interest, although payments are linked with inflation.

How much do I have to pay upfront?

You’ll need to pay a 10% deposit to show you’re committed to your place on the course.

Is this means-tested?

Yes. To be eligible, you must have had an income less than £21,000 in the last 12 months. We'll ask an FCA-regulated third party who help us run this scheme to verify this.

Do I need tech experience or qualifications?

Nope. Absolutely not. You won't need to know a line of code (or even what a line of code is) to apply for Northcoders. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a degree, A-levels or GCSEs, you’re still eligible to apply.

What is Northcoders looking for?

Places are competitive, so you'll need to prove to us that you're committed to learning to code and starting a career in tech in the North of England.

Here are a couple of tips:

First, set aside regular time to complete the preparation materials that you'll need to complete your Entry Challenge. Aim to attend an Entry Challenge between two and four weeks after applying. You'll be invited to workshops to help you progress. Try to come along to these, if you can, to help you improve. Doing all of this shows us this is something you really want to do!

Second, communicate with us! It's important that our students communicate with us so that we know how we can help, so we want to see that somebody is happy to keep us up to date early on in the process, too. We are here for you, and want you to succeed!

Will I be able to choose my start date?

There is currently a waiting list for this scheme of up to 6 months depending on the location. You can tell us which cohort you’d like to join in your online application, but we might have to bring forward or defer your start date depending on class sizes.

When is the deadline to apply?

There is no deadline to apply at present, but if we plan to close applications we will publish a deadline here. There are a limited number of places available through this scheme. Places are highly competitive, so we recommend you make applying and preparing for your Entry Challenge a priority.
