When is the right time to take the Entry ChallengePreview: When is the right time to take the Entry Challenge

Am I ready to take the Entry Challenge?
You’ve been learning a lot of new things in a short span of time so it’s normal to not feel 100% ready! If you work through our JavaScript Basics course and all 20 Practice Challenges, you should know everything you need to. Don’t hesitate to ask us if there’s anything that doesn’t quite make sense yet so we can help you fill any gaps before your Entry Challenge.

What’s the Entry Challenge like?
The Entry Challenge is quite relaxed, it’s really just a chance for you to show off what you’ve learned and for us to get a taste of your problem-solving skills and your drive to learn. We’ll give you an hour to try and solve a range of coding problems. You’ll then have a quick Zoom call with one of our tutors so they can ask you a few questions about your code and to give you the opportunity to explain how you approached the problems.

What happens after the Entry Challenge?
If you pass your Entry Challenge (and most people do!), we’ll send you an offer to study with us. This is the point where you need to decide which of our courses you want to do: the Coding Bootcamp, the Data Engineering Bootcamp or the Cloud Engineering Bootcamp. We’ll also send you some paperwork to fill out but it’s all pretty straightforward. If you fail your Entry Challenge, we’ll give you some feedback and invite you to do another Entry Challenge after a couple of weeks’ extra practice.

What kind of laptop or computer do I need for the course?
Your machine needs to have an Intel Core i5 processor or equivalent and at least 8GB of RAM. If you’re using macOS, setting up your laptop or computer won’t take long. If you’re using Windows, you’ll need to install Linux on your machine. Don’t worry, we’ll provide you with a guide on how to do it. You can find out more detailed information here.

Will you help me find a job after the course?
Yes! We’ll give you the inside scoop on how to land your first tech job during dedicated careers sessions. Once you’ve finished the Bootcamp, you’ll get access to our exclusive jobs board where our hiring partners advertise roles specifically to hire Northcoders graduates. Our careers team will support you with your applications and interviews until you’ve found your first post-Bootcamp role. You can find out more about how we’ll help you find work here.
