Travel made simple

Concept and Inspiration

TravelGenie was born from a shared idea of wanting easier travel. We wanted to create a single platform to hold all aspects of travel planning, similar to traditional travel agents but with added features only available on phones. Travel made simple.

Overview of the App

TravelGenie is designed to be your personal travel assistant, taking care of every detail from flight booking to hotel reservations and activity planning. Our app's sleek and simple design makes navigating it as a new user easy, with only 3 questions being asked to get your first holiday generated.

User Experience

Onboarding and Signup:

When users first open TravelGenie, we created a series of onboarding screens that highlight the app’s key features. These screens provide a quick overview of what TravelGenie can do. The signup process is straightforward, with options to register using an email address and username.

Three Questions:

Users start by answering three simple questions: where do you want to go, travel dates and what’s your budget. Thisallows the app to begin gathering relevant travel options.

Booking Flights:

TravelGenie presents a list of outbound/inbound flight options for users to select from.

Hotel Selection:

Once flights are chosen, users are shown a list of hotels based on their destination.
Users can select their preferred hotel and confirm their booking, which will then integrate it into their travel plan.

Activity Planning:

TravelGenie’s USP could be argued to be the excursions list we provide, set to a parameter within a 1km radius of the selected hotel. This feature ensures that users have access to cafes, bars, restaurants, walks, points of interest and general activities within their holiday area.

Trip Overview and Confirmation:

Before finalizing their trip, users are presented with an overview of their travel plan, including flight details, hotel bookings and whether they’ve come in over or under budget. We didn’t want to stop the user from deciding that spending an extra bit of money was a bad choice.

Once confirmed, the app renders the booking into their existing bookings page, with celebratory confetti feedback.

Managing Bookings and Documents:

The existing bookings page allows users to view and manage their confirmed travel plans, giving users quick access to their flight details.
Users can also add travel documents to specific holidays by selecting the document type and uploading files. This ensures that all essential documents are accessible in one place.

Profile and Settings:

The profile page displays user information such as the username, amount of holidays booked, date the account was created and a log out button to return to the onboarding pages.

Challenges Faced

One of our biggest challenges was integrating the frontend with the hosted API. We had to make several changes to our backend database to match the frontend's data structure expectations.

We also faced time constraints, as we had less than two weeks to develop our MVP.
