Casino Worker to Software Developer
Tommy
Software Developer at powwr (UD Group)
How did you find your time on the bootcamp?
A lot of ups and downs, the most rewarding thing I've ever done in a great, fun and friendly environment.
What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?
I was working in a casino, and even though I enjoyed my time and learnt a lot in the industry, my passion was always in technology.
What was the support like on the course?
The tutors are super approachable, I love the fact that we was assigned a mentor for the duration of the course, he always made himself available when I was having any issue or doubts the one on one support was greatly appreciated.
How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?
I can't speak highly enough of the support from the Careers Team, from ongoing communication to speedy replies. I even got a reply on Slack from Steph at 9pm, if that doesn't show that they have your best interest at heart I don't know what does.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?
Don't get overwhelmed by the vision of the end product, break everything down to manageable sizes. Some concepts are tricky and you will doubt yourself and your ability but don't give up, go for small wins, and everything will fall into place. Rome wasn't built in a day.
I feel like I finally fit in with a crowd of like-minded people, and now I'm getting paid for it.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I feel like I finally fit in with a crowd of like-minded people, and now I'm getting paid for it. What more can I ask for? Big thank you to everyone at Northcoders for the support and allowing me such a wonderful oppurtunity.
