What job role are you in?

Senior software engineer

How have you found your experience progressing in the industry?

I found I was able to progress well, picking up a wide range of experience in different roles and projects. Never a dull moment!

How did you find your time on the bootcamp?

Bootcamp was a really intense, challenging and satisfying time for me. It took over my life for 3 months but was a really positive learning experience. Being in person with my cohort created a special bond between us.

What were you doing before the Bootcamp?

I had a manufacturing engineering degree and had worked in industry, eventually dabbling in software engineering, but not for long before taking time out to raise a family for 10 years.

What made you interested in moving into tech?

Prior experience

What made you choose Northcoders?

A mad coincidence introduced me to Chris and James and I knew straight away I had to get a place on the Northcoders course. I started 2 days later on cohort #3!!

How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?

Good support but I ended up getting a job through an ex-colleague/networking.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?

If you know you are interested in problem solving and a keen learner then I say go for it! If you aren’t sure, dip your toe in with an introductory course and set yourself a goal. It’s not really about what you know, it’s how you respond to a challenge. Are you willing to figure it out??
