How did you find your time on the bootcamp?

I found the bootcamp to be quite hard, I had to push every day to keep up with the pace. My first “hello world” in JavaScript was in September, but some students had previous knowledge and I tried to close the gap between me and them. This situation turned in my favour in pair programming as anytime I was paired with someone with more experience. I’ve learned a lot. Overall, in my opinion, at this bootcamp you have everything you need to learn, excellent guidance from staff, great colleagues, you even have a mentor, who is yours to ask him anything anytime. My mentor Paul Copley, was THE BEST person you can ever ask for as a mentor. You just need the right attitude and a hunger to learn.

What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?

I looked for job opportunities as a trainee or junior developer but I quickly realized my experience was not strong enough so I chose to develop my technical skills and improve my English. To raise the money which I needed for the bootcamp I started working as an Amazon delivery driver. I was a delivery driver for Amazon from February to August.

How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?

Although I think I received enough attention and guidance, I get hired later than almost anyone in my cohort. I found work 3.5 months after graduating. In the end though, I'm 101% happy with my position.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?

I would definitely recommend applying (which I am already doing). I'm already telling my friends that they will not find anywhere where they will receive this much for this cost. It's important to develop your technical skills but not forgetting the soft skills that are extremely (again, extremely) important to any employer, such as team working, communication, pair programming, etc. You can't develop these if you're coding in your own time only.
