Caseworker to Associate Data Engineer
Holly Greaves
Associate Data Engineer at Sky Betting and Gaming
How did you find your time on the bootcamp?
I started the course with no experience of tech and found the course not only gave me great foundations in tech but also the skills to expand on this knowledge. The course is intense but I felt well supported and never out of my depth. The tutors were knowledgeable and friendly and the pair programming gave us the opportunity to learn from our peers. The career support during and after the course was incredible, I quickly found a fantastic role.
What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?
I worked as a caseworker at the parliamentary and health service ombudsman. I enjoyed my work but I had not been given the opportunity to grow outside the role and take on new challenges, so I felt a change was needed.
What was the support like on the course?
The tutors were great at answering questions in the lectures and I never felt silly for asking for anything. They were also available during sprints and in person, as well as more casually around the office for chats about the tech, careers or how we were feeling.
How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?
We were given help with CV's and cover letters. We were also given information about tech tests and how tech recruitment works. We were also given one to one slack channels and advice. We had regular career tasks and employer showcases which were really useful in understanding the roles. The jobs board was also great and got me my first role.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?
Never feel like you are not good enough to take on a new challenge. Regardless of your background, anyone can learn to code.
Anything else you would like to add?
Thank you so much for changing my life and giving me so much support, I would not have been in such a great place without you!
