How did you find your time on the bootcamp?
At Northcoders it was the people that stood out for me most of all, it was a new environment and I quickly came to realise that I was surrounded by so many bright, intelligent, positive and helpful people. Successful people will often say that one the most important keys to success is to surround yourself with the right people and Northcoders is filled with them from wall to wall.
I'd listen to the tutor and think 'how on earth do you know all of this!'... I was surrounded by so many bright, intelligent, positive and helpful people.
What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?
I'd always had an inner passion for software since being a teenager, to cut a long story short - I did always maintain a keen interest but found myself working tech support / customer service roles out of necessity, discovering the existence of coding bootcamps and Northcoders in particular - I'd found a perfect solution to actually materialise my passion.
What was the support like on the course?
Hear me out on this one - the curriculum teaches not only the most in-demand skills within the industry, but it also teaches a rock-solid foundation of programming fundamentals that you're able to carry-over and teach yourself any programming technology you want learn.
With that being said, many of the teaching team were Northcoders graduates once upon a time, and they've studied this curriculum countless times over - day in day out. They're genuine experts. During the first couple of lectures I'd listen to the tutor and think "how on earth do you know all of this!"... and then during sprints the question is answered, they have endless patience with you just as their tutors did for them, and they are always on hand for when you need direction and guidance - and as long as you work hard and match their effort then you will gain their knowledge.
How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?
It feels a bit like cheating (it's not, you've worked hard for it!), and although the talent team can't interview on your behalf (that's your job!)... they do basically everything else, they give guidance and feedback on your CV and projects, they provide you with interview prep material, they introduce you to potential employers, set up interviews... the works!
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?
The software/coding/programming industry is non-stop growth, it's the present and the future, if you're interested in learning to code - and once you've made a start - find yourself enjoying it... it's not possible to lose. You'll have made a wise and rewarding decision every time, especially with Northcoders.
