Business Consultant to Software Engineer
Neil Mergulhao
Software Engineer at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence
How did you find your time on the bootcamp?
I really enjoyed my time at Northcoders. We covered a lot of subject matters within a short period of time. Tutors, mentors and students were helpful in supporting the learning of others. The most enjoyable part for me was the group project. It was a chance to showcase the tech and non-tech skills learnt throughout the course. Also, my team got the opportunity to use machine learning for our mobile app, Fridge Tracker.
What were you doing before the Bootcamp and what made you apply?
Before Northcoders I was a Business Consultant that had project management and business analysis experience. At my last client engagement, I was part of the Business Architecture team for a Private Bank. I noticed that a lot of the target state solutions were technical in nature. As such I wanted to deepen my knowledge and understanding of digital transformations from a technical lens.
What was the support like on the course?
My mentors were extremely supportive when I needed help on a specific problem or clarification of a concept.
How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?
Northcoders has an amazing careers team which provides support for all stages of the employment process. I was able to get feedback on my CV and cover letter. In addition, Northcoders has a jobs board and hiring partner presentations throughout the week.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?
I would urge anyone who wants to learn more about coding to try it out on websites that offer free courses e.g. FreeCodeCamp or CodeAcademy before applying to a coding Bootcamp.
