How Northcoders is empowering Women in Tech
Career Advice, Supportive Organisations and Inspiring Events
Coding is commonly perceived as a male-dominated industry, but times are changing. Women are breaking barriers, making significant contributions, and reshaping the tech industry. At Northcoders, we want to continue supporting women and other gender minorities to break into tech. We’ve compiled our tips on pushing through imposter syndrome, what organisations can help you in your career in tech, and what events you may want to join.
Northcoders collaborates with various organisations, such as Innovate Her and Girls Who Code, to continuously provide useful information to students who are women and other gender minorities. We are working to bridge the gender gap by improving our pre-course materials, introducing our Gender Diversity Fund and supporting events such as Karren Brady's Women and Business in Tech Expo. Whether you are starting your career with Northcoders, returning after a break with Tech Returners or seeking new opportunities, remember that you are not alone on your journey. Embrace the resources available, build strong networks, and continue to inspire and be inspired by fellow women in tech.Â

Events for women in tech
Attending events specifically designed for women in tech can be a fantastic way to connect with like-minded individuals, learn from industry leaders, and gain inspiration. Look out for events such as conferences, workshops, and networking gatherings. These events often feature keynote speakers, panel discussions, and breakout sessions focused on career advancement, skill-building, and fostering diversity in the tech industry. If you want something more relaxed, there are also smaller meet ups available on websites like Meetup and Eventbrite. We also support special events like Women in Tech Week.
Tips for your career
A career in technology can have unique challenges for women and other gender minorities. We highly recommend finding a supportive community to help you navigate them. You can seek out mentors or join mentorship programmes specific to women in tech, who can provide valuable guidance, share their experiences, and help you advance in your career. Additionally, you can build a strong professional network by attending industry conferences like Reframe and joining online communities where you can connect with other women in the technology sector. While you are learning on a Northcoders bootcamp or Tech Returners programme, our dedicated careers team will also be able to support you with everything from writing your CV to finding relevant jobs on our jobs board.
