Introduction Week
We'll begin by helping you build your confidence with JavaScript, laying the foundations for you to be able to handle data and create interactivity on websites and apps. We'll also provide you with resources to help you build your HTML and CSS skills.
Fundamentals
First things first. We’ll give you a solid understanding of the fundamentals and best practices of programming. We'll cover test-driven development, pair programming, object-oriented programming and a range of other core tools and workplace practices through the medium of JavaScript.
Back End
JavaScript is the only language that can be run both on the front and back end. Once you’ve mastered the fundamentals of coding in JavaScript, we show you how we can use use Node.js to run code for the back end, and focus on ways of dealing with asynchronous programming. We'll look at APIs and databases, and cover Express and SQL.
Cloud Fundamentals and Provisioning
It's all about the cloud next - by this point you will have experienced developing and running software on your own computer. This phase of the programme is where you will begin working with AWS to get apps deployed manually, begin working with Terraform to use Infrastructure as Code. Then you will have a week long project to create a network using Terraform wherein you will deploy a series of microservices which will emulate a smart home.
Application Deployment
Building on provisioning you’ll understand and create your own Kubernetes cluster. You’ll operate this cluster and deploy applications in the form of docker containers to your cluster. We’ll also explore automating the deployment through Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tools. Once the applications are running, you’ll build on your understanding by developing knowledge of monitoring and observability of those applications.
Project Week
This is where we take everything we have learned to deploy a set of applications on to your cloud environment. Using all the previous skills you’ll create servers and services, build and deploy applications and set up the monitoring for when they are running.
