Office Worker to Front End Developer
Rick
Junior Frontend Developer at Childcare Connect
How did you find your time on the bootcamp?
My time at Northcoders has been one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. The curriculum was always challenging, enjoyable and constantly pushed me out of my comfort zone which ensured I was always learning. All the mentors and teachers at Northcoders were amazing, always ready to explain anything I was stuck on they ensured they also explained the surrounding factors that would help me make the right decision next time by myself.

What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?
Before I was at Northcoders I had been working in different office jobs for the past 10 years and before that I worked as a photographer. I had become increasingly down about my job and needed to change not only to a different job but also needed a outlet to be creative as that is something I have missed since leaving the photography field.
What was the support like on the course?
Each and every one of the mentors and teachers are committed to getting the best from their students. They know the best order to learn subjects to maximise your productivity on the course and know how to lead you to find the answer rather than just giving it to you which in itself will help you following the correct thought process next time.
How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?
The help I got to get a job after the course was amazing. in the last few weeks of the course we were consulted as to what sort of jobs we would like to go for and explained the difference between the companies, so we could make an educated decision as to which companies to apply for. The following Tuesday I had a telephone interview with Connect Childcare who then invited me to a face to face and tech test the following week. By the end of that week I had accepted an offer from them and this was all arranged by Northcoders Talent Team.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?
Learning to code in you own time will give you a small insight into the world of coding but from my experience the progress I made at Northcoders makes the amount I learnt by myself insignificant by comparison.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Northcoders have given me the ability to change my life for the better. From here on out its on wards and upwards.
